Stone Temple Pilots & Daughtry Blew Us Away/ July 17th, 2022

Stone Temple Pilots with very special guest Chris Daughtry made a stop in Spokane on July 17th, at Northern Quest Resort & Casino for their Summer Outdoor Concert Series. This was the 4th concert of the series at the casino and by far the best.

Daughtry was asked to open the show for Stone Temple Pilots and just did such an outstanding and intense performance they made it a hard act to follow. This is only the second time I have had the pleasure of seeing Chris and the band live. The first time was back in 2017 when Daughtry opened the show for Nickelback in the Spokane Arena. Daughtry was booked at the CDA Casino in 2020 for a headlining show in March or April of that year which would have been a more up close and personal concert a little bit more intimate but was canceled due to the Covid epidemic and was never rescheduled there?

The first time I ever even heard of Chris Daughtry was back in 2006 the 5th season of American Idol as Chris was a contestant. He finished 4th behind winner Taylor Hicks, Katherine McPhee, and Elliot Yamin. Chris and his band Daughtry released their debut album later that year. I voted for Chris the entire season and thought he was a sure win? His voice and his range was exceptional, Chris just had that Star Power about him, you can tell he is a genuine nice guy and not full of himself. It was easy to tell he was going places and that place was Spokane last Sunday night.

Daughtry was so intense last night at Quest Casino and putting his all into every song he said he couldn't breath at one point. He took a few seconds to catch his breath then was ready to go. Chris talked about his 16 year old self, how he never would have dreamed that he would ever open up the show for Stone Temple Pilots.

Daughtry played an acoustic version of the song "Blinding Lights" by " The Weeknd" he said this song was so good he wished he had wrote it and said he had never played it before. It's like he heard me when I said he has played this one before and right after he said, " I have never played this one before as you can see I am taping words to the stage". I thought he was talking about "One" by Metallica as he said the same thing about it A few years back when Daughtry opened for everyone's favorite Nickelback. They are still one of my favorites and Daughtry I have liked since American Idol. I liked him from the first time I heard him and actually before as he just had that star power about him. I was just standing there listening to him at the concert Sunday night saying to myself what a great voice he has he is so passionate in his performance and so intense it's that star power I was talking about. Daughtry has a new album out "Dearly Beloved" and opened the show with a couple songs from the new release then went into "It's Not Over" the song that started it all. Full setlist below.

That Intense Look

Stone Temple Pilots were never popular with critics, but they had no trouble winning over audiences, launching a series of hit singles onto rock radio during the 1990s. Led by charismatic lead singer Scott Weiland, this Southern California quartet molded hard rock, punk, pop, glam, and classic rock onto albums that reflected the group's evolving influences. Stone Temple Pilots talk moving on after the deaths of Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington, and how they found new singer Jeff Gutt. “It’s Stone Temple Pilots time again. During the show new lead vocals paid homage to both Scott Weiland who passed in 2015 and Chester Bennington 2 years later.

Stone Temple Pilots hit the stage and brought me back to the 90's, STP new lead singer Jeff Gutt did a pretty good job filling the big shoes of Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington former lead vocals for the band. Jeff has a similar look to Scott Weiland and saw a fan in the front row wearing an old Stone Temple Pilots T-shirt and said, "I have not seen that shirt for 20 years thank you for wearing it tonight". STP opened their set with "Wicked Garden", "Vasoline", and "Big Ban Baby". You can check out the full set list below.

Live Music is back with a vengeance there are many concerts and festivals all over this summer make sure you attend as many as you can you never know when it will be the last time you have a chance to see a certain artist? Remember you can't download a live concert experience, go to a show and make your own memories not someone else's
