With the recent passing of the great Tom Petty last fall anything that has to do with his name has become popular including Tom Petty Tribute Bands. I was skeptical to see if anyone could pull off Petty's unique sound so when I heard that Petty Fever was coming to town after I had been in the process of booking them for Rock$tarzz Hospitality I wanted to make sure I went to scout them out and see what kind of draw the band brings with them?

I was pleasantly surprised to find out how close this band was to the real deal. In my opinion no one can replace one of my all time favorites and a band I grew up listening to like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers but Petty Fever comes close. From the look to the stage performance to the sound this band pulled it off.

Unfortunately I never got to see Tom Petty live on his final tour he did not book a show in my city so I was going to try and make the 5 hour trip over the cascades last summer when Petty was perfoming at Seattles Safeco Field. I was not able to make the trip as I had been in Seattle the week prior for the Metallica Concert and I had pretty much spent my budget. When I heard of Petty's untimely death just weeks after the concert in Seattle I wanted to kick myself for not going.
I wasn't going to miss this Tom Petty Tribute just being at the show it was like a trip back in time the show was like a magical land for 2 hours. The music took me to my childhood and made me forget any problems I may have been going through in my life for a few hours, music has a great way of doing that it's like a break from reality.

Petty Fever played all of the Tom Petty greatest hits from, "I won't Back Down" which is pratically an anthem to "Running Down A Dream", "Free Falling", You Don't Know How it Feels", "American Girl", "Mary Jane's Last Dance", "Breakdown", "You Got Lucky", and "Don't Do Me Like That" just barely covers this incredible performance. When the band left the stage the crowd wanted more so they graciously came back out for a 2 song encore.

To top off the night I went and met the guys in the band I wanted to introduce myself since I will be working with them next year. The guys were very cool, the show rocked what more could you ask for other than the original? Tribute bands are a great way to get as close of an actual experience to the original and with Petty Fever you will walk away on such a high and with the feeling you were at an actual Tom Petty concert, it's the the closest you can get at this point.

I am always telling people make sure you buy those concert tickets you can't download a live music experience. I use my example of not making Tom Petty's concert last summer before his death and how I missed my chance to see this incredible artist. You don't want to have regrets you never know when is the last time and with so many great bands and artists doing their farewell tours in the next couple years there is always a way.
You can't download a live concert experience, head to a live show make some great memories and live the dream.
