The Pacific Northwest has had many rocking concerts scheduled for the summer of 2015. There have been so many that I can hardly keep up with them all, and that's a good thing. Last Monday night Northern Quest Resort & Casino kicked off their Outdoor Summer Concert Series with 3 legendary rocker chicks, Melissa Ethridge, Debbie Harry (Blondie), and my personal favorite Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. Spokane lucked out and was the only city on the tour to get all 3 of these lovely ladies together for one amazing show. Melissa Ethridge kicked off the night, at one point in the show she mentions how she can't seem to get enough water? Which isn't surprising, the temperature was well into the 90's but it did give her a great lead into her hit song, "Bring Me Some Water." This song incidentally earned her, her first Grammy nomination. She even took a selfie with the crowd then closed the set with, "Like The Way I Do" almost destroying her acoustic guitar during her performance. Rock N Roll Hall of Famer, Blondie was the second act to perform. They are celebrating their 40th anniversary with the release of the greatest hits album, "Blondie 4(0)Ever." Debbie Harry still can put the moves on at the age of 70 years young as she jumped around on stage doing spins and kicks during her hour- long set. She started off with the hit, "One Way Or Another" and the crowd came to life. Harry ended the set with (“Rapture”), a cover of “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)”, “The Tide is High” and finished with “Heart of Glass.” Multi-Platinum and Gold selling artist, and A recent inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts took the headlining spot of the night belting out hits like, "Crimson & Clover, Cherry Bomb, I Hate Myself For Loving You, and the ever popular, I Love Rock N Roll." I would like to share with you one of my favorite quotes of Joan's. "If you are going to set out thinking you are going to be a rock star, you'll be disappointed real quick. You can't want to do it for money. You can sit and dream about getting on stage, getting in those lights, and making people happy--that was my dream, and I was lucky enough to make it come true. But it is a lot of hard work, It's physical, it's mental, and it is very taxing. If you are doing it to impress your friends, you'll do it for a year and give it up. If you want to be a musician or a singer, you have to really, really want to do it." Something to think about and great advice from one cool rocker chick and someone who has experienced it all.
