What can I say about the show that went down at The Knitting Factory in Spokane, WA on March 4, 2015? Well it was another epic show indeed but it didn't end there. First to the stage was Wovenwar: In case you have no idea who Wovenwar is and the significance of this release, here’s the quick skinny: Wovenwar is the supergroup of the bands As I Lay Dying and Oh, Sleeper. They were formed from the events in 2013, when AILD vocalist Tim Lambesis was arrested for attempting to hire a hitman to assassinate his wife. Rather than continue AILD with a new vocalist, the rest of the band decided to start a new project with a new name. They then brought on Shane Blay, clean vocalist for OS to be their frontman. After numerous teasers on various social media outlets, tension is released and the world is now able to fully experience Wovenwar. Next up was everybody's favorite All That Remains. All That Remains is an American heavy metal band from Springfield, Massachusetts formed in 2000. They have released seven studio albums, a live CD/DVD, and have sold over a million records worldwide. Back in 2013 the band received some criticism for putting a ballad on their album," A War You Cannot Win" with the song, "What If I Were Nothing". Lead singer Phil Labonte even mentions this in their performance before starting that song. I for one really enjoy the song, "What If I were Nothing", singing a ballad really demonstrates vocal ability. Phil Labonte also mentioned in The All That Remains set about the legalized Marijuana laws in Washington State and used a few choice words about this subject. I will be posting a video I took at the show when this happened. Then the headliners hit the stage, "In Flames", a Swedish heavy metal band with their new CD Siren Charms. Melodic death metal and Gothenburg have been going strong for 20 years since In Flames and their fellow peers inception. Bands have came and went by toying with this sound, but the genre has been steadfast thanks to the determination of the founding bands, particularly In Flames. As one of the very first Gothenburg bands, In Flames carries a lot of weight with their name, which has become infused with their sound.Combining the lead guitars and heavy melodic style of Swedish melodic death with experimentation, In Flames has never needed to resort to rehashing and recycling. The crowd was energized and still ready to rock by the end of the show but the night did not end here for some of the lucky ones including myself. Members of the band, "All That Remains" Oli Herbert and most of the members from, "In Flames" ended up in a Spokane club, "The Underground 15" for some karaoke enjoyment. I got the pleasure of playing Pin Ball with Oli Herbert along with some of the other patrons of the club. I kept taking pictures and trying to get video's of the whole experience until Oli asked me if I could please not video him in the club. He said, "it was great to go and relax and enjoy hanging out after a show and not have to worry about some strange video ending up on the internet going viral". Needless to say I respected his wishes, he referred to me as, " Video Janet", I think I made an impression. Oli Herbert did sing a couple songs including, a-ha, "Take On Me", and a duet with "In Flames" Guitarist Peter Iwers, to a Journey song, priceless.
